Course objectives
The subject is drawn as a basic insight view to the question of European Integration. It is aimed at the political development of the EU, its institutions, policy and the enlargement process. It is meant for students, who want to acquire basic knowledge of this supranational international organization. The main objectives of the course are: to understand the basic turning-points of the EU development including the actual situation, to orientate in the institutional structure of the EU, to gain knowledge about the functioning of the fundamental EU policies and to understand the process of the EU enlargement.
Syllabus
  • The subject is divided into several blocks:
  • I. 1.-3. History of the European Integration, overview of the basic treaty frameworks (Markéta Pitrová);
  • II. 4.-6. Institutions of EU, their functioning, decision making process (Petr Kaniok, Markéta Pitrová);
  • III. 7.-9. Common policies, chosen coordination policies, financing of EU (Zdeněk Sychra);
  • IV. 10.-11. Enlargment of EC/EU, strategies and approaches (Zdeněk Sychra).

Teaching methods
The course is based on lectures and individual work with the study recourses.
Assessment methods
The subject is finished with a test, for whose passing the final exam. The exam will consist of 40 closed questions (multiple choice). For passing the test the student needs at least 26 points (65 %). The exam is held in the facilities of the IS MU – electronical test. Division of points in the final exam: A = 40-38, B = 37-35, C = 34-32, D = 31-29, E = 28-26, F = 25 and less.
