Course objectives
The course is offered to students who like to read, write and think about politics in a broader context. Based on texts with clearly defined opinions some essential issues, which European societies are facing and which are the subject of social science reflection, will be analyzed. Attention will be paid to the issues of European, respectively western identity, objectives and risks of European integration, the challenges facing democratic political order, the links between globalization and integration and a national state, the conditions of current politics and some key systems, which create an environment and topic of the politics, such as market or culture. Students will deepen their competence in the field of social science analysis, interpretation, discussion and ability to present and defend, in written and oral form, their opinions based on knowledge of political science.

Teaching methods
Lessons are based on regular reading of papers and books, written preparation, moderated discussion and active individual and group work in seminars.
Assessment methods
Successful completion of the course assumes continuous preparation for sessions including regular reading of assigned literature, submitting shorter written seminar papers (4 group and 1 individual work) and active participation in seminars.
