Course objectives
The aim of the course is bringing closer the Arabic/Islamic world, Arabic culture, Islamic religion and its connection to the Europe included. The subject contains historical evolution of the Arabic/Islamic states, their internal policy development with the accentuation on the present day. Moreover the subject analyses foreign policy some states with the alignment to Europe that means development of the relations among the European communities/European Union and the individual Arabian/Islamic states, Euro-Mediterranean partnership.
Syllabus
  • 1.-2.Islam – Arabian/Islamic culture, its valuable paradigms, legacy of the Arabian culture, Islam as a religion, rise, evolution. 3.-4.Geographical-political determination Arabic/Islamic states, the view of the historical evolution, the period of colonialism, rise of the individual Arabic/Islamic states 5.-6. The development of the internal policy of the Arabic/Islamic states up to the present 7.-8. Foreign policies of the Arabic/Islamic states including the Arab-Israeli wars 9.-10. Development of the Euro–Arabic relations, juridical–institutionally settlement of the EC/EU relations with the Arabic/Islamic states, mutual economic, financial, political, cultural, social and other cooperation, Euro-Mediterranean partnership-Barcelona process 11.-12. Integration groupment of Arabic/Islamic states, membership in international, regional, governmental and non governmental organizations. 13. The notion of democracy of the states, citizen societies in Islam, Islamic fundamentalism, jihad, terrorism, role of the women in society.

Assessment methods
The subject will be ended by the credit. The requirements for passing the subject is based on the evaluation up to 100 points, (seminar work 40 points and final test 60 points). It is needed to prepare the seminar work to the extent of 10 pages with all essentials: links to the bibliography, the schedule of the used literature etc. The themes for the seminar works will be given either during the first lecture or choosed in consultations. In order to complete the course it is needed to collect at least 70 % points of 100 %.
