Course objectives
This course is an introduction to the counseling and intervention techniques commonly employed in substance-abusing and dually-diagnosed populations. Variety of theoretical approaches is explored and its applications are demonstrated in the actual case material. This is a required course for those individuals who are interested in mental health and substance abuse. At the end of the course the student shoul be able to:
- understand the basic of drug issues
- describe drug abuse history
- recognize drug abuse symptoms
- list main risk factors for formation of addiction
- describe legislation and anti-drug activities in Czech Republic, prevention and anti-drug programs in developed western countries
Syllabus
  • - Introduction into studies - history of narcotics and addictives abuse from the oldest civilization till today
  • - The partition of drugs, short term and long term symptoms
  • - The drug classification by psychical and physical dependence and their usage
  • - The drug spreading in the world (social and economic impact
  • - The legislation and drug smuggling, keeping, distribution and drug abuse
  • - Anti-drug program in developed western countries
  • - European countries against drugs
  • - Czech Republic attitudes towards drug spreading issue (the commission, coordinators, Czech Republic acceptation into ICCA
  • - Prevention (prevention levels and their characteristics, orientation in services)
