Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the key topics of media ethics and media law. Students are to be instructed to understand the core legal and ethical norms properly, to apply those in to their praxis and to internalize the key media values, such as impartiality, independence and autonomy, truthfulness and watchdog function of media. The complexity of the course is based on the requirements of the application sphere, as elaborated in the market analysis.
Learning outcomes
Students are to be able to understand and use basic ethical and legal norms, to analyze important ethical issues critically, to know the core ethical values, to identify legal and ethical issues of their work.

  • 1. Introduction, ethics and law; 2. Axiology of media ethics, watchdog; 3. Ethical norms; 4. Independence and autonomy; 5. Impartiality, thruthfulness; 6. Freedom of speech; 7. Privacy; 8. Legal status of a journalist; 9. Regulation of print and broadcasting media; 10. Public service media regulation; 11. On-line media regulation.
