- Course objectives
- The course aims to introduce students with the system of work with children who grow up outside their primary family and especially with the role of a psychologist in this system. The course is designed in blocks, in meetings we will focus on the causes of placing children outside the family, various forms of childcare (especially institutional care, foster care, adoption) and the impact on the child. Emphasis will be placed on linking the current system settings with the knowledge of (especially) developmental psychology. Knowledge of developmental psychology is a necessity (and prerequisite) for enrollment and completion of the course.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will gain an overview of the system of substitute family care and institutional care, will understand various positions and roles of a psychologist in this system and will be able to critically evaluate the current system in terms of psychology.
