Course objectives
Presentations of the results of the dissertation project take place in the presence of at least 3 members of the programme board and have the format of a conference presentation introducing findings of the evaluated dissertation project and the plan for further progress. The aim of the course is to provide broader feedback to students in the advanced phase of their dissertation work. Presentations usually take place as part of a research workshop of the Department of Media Studies and Journalism, which is organized each semester during the examination period. The choice of the language of the presentation is up to the students. It is recommended to complete the course by the end of the 6th semester of study at the latest.
Learning outcomes
The course develops learning outcomes No.1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Syllabus
  • The presentations typically take two forms:
  • (1) Students preparing a dissertation consisting of journal studies present the findings of one or more of the studies to be included in the dissertation. These may also be completed drafts that have not yet gone through the publication process. Students choosing this route are required to submit no later than two weeks before the presentation itself both the presented study (i.e. the full text of the study, which may be a draft before submission, an accepted article, etc.) and a file with a brief description of the status and content of other publications planned for inclusion in the dissertation and a time frame for completing the dissertation and fulfilling study obligations (max. 800 words).
  • (2) Students preparing a monographic dissertation present the results of data collection and analyses included in the dissertation being prepared. Two weeks before the presentation itself, students are required to submit a research report (max. 4000 words) summarizing the presented results and a file containing a brief description of the current status of the dissertation as such and a time frame for completing the dissertation and fulfilling study obligations (max. 800 words).
  • The presentation of the results is then commented on by the supervisor and a selected teacher of the doctoral program who is familiar with the submitted materials in advance; the presentation is then discussed by the seminar participants. The final evaluation is then decided by the members of the subject council present.
