- Abstract
The course consists of two parts. The aim of the first part is to share information and practical experience of an MVEB graduate in securing employment in consulting firms, as well as to introduce key topics and specific projects in the energy sector. This part also outlines the typical structure of recruitment processes and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of MVEB graduates when entering the consulting industry.
The second part of the course focuses on solving a specific case study.
The topic of the case study is the gradual phase-out of coal in the Czech Republic and the transformation of the energy mix. The assignment is designed to help students understand how to develop and quantify basic scenarios for future energy system development. The study is intended for students with no prior knowledge of the topic. Its objective is to model the coal phase-out process and assess whether current trends and publicly available data are consistent with existing plans.
The course will also demonstrate how to build such a model, what questions to ask, and which aspects to focus on during the analysis. The main objective is for each student to be able to evaluate the likelihood of future developments and critically assess available information upon completing the course.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will become familiar with selected procedures and methods used in consulting companies and will be able to apply them at a very basic level.
- Key topics
- 1) Description of possible topics and types of projects in the energy sector (Implementation Projects, Feasibility Studies, Strategic Projects, Reporting) 2) Job description of junior analysts (data collection and verification, researching legislation and regulations, creating scenarios, calculating and estimating market potential, building economic models, cost-benefit analysis, creating recommendations and conclusions) 3) Employment opportunities for MVEB graduates 4) Case study (data collection and validation, communication with stakeholders, scenario modeling, data model analysis, formulation of recommendations)
