- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of public health protection issues from both public and private law perspectives, following the study of theoretical disciplines of public and private law. Public health protection is lectured from an international, European and national perspective. The added value of the course lies mainly in the participation of guest lecturers who are practitioners and are able to provide students with practical and theoretical insight into the issues.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will have acquired a cross-cutting knowledge of the basic legal instruments of public health protection within the framework of international and EU law and current legislation in the Czech Republic. The student will be able to apply these instruments in practice, including in relation to environmental legislation, health and food law. On the basis of the knowledge acquired in this way, the student will be able to present reasoned solutions and, in particular, to interpret and apply the enforceability of public health law appropriately.

- Introduction to public health protection. Legal background, methods of legal regulation, sources of legal regulation and principles.
- Public health protection and food.
- Public health and noise pollution.
- Protection of public health in the case law of the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Administrative Court, with a focus on vaccination and pandemic measures.
- Public health protection and health law: rights and obligations of the patient and the health care facility, prevention of contagious and non-contagious diseases.
- Public health protection in legislation and case law.
- Colloquium.

- Teaching methods
- Practically oriented lectures and seminars: interpretation and discussion in the classroom using powerpoint presentations, discussion of selected examples from application practice, self-study, analysis of relevant legislation and case law.
- Assessment methods
- Active participation of the student in the seminars is required. This will include testing of knowledge by a short test at the beginning of the seminar. The test will contain a series of questions based on a thematically related lecture. A colloquium paper (presentation on a selected topic) is also required. The student's knowledge will be tested in the final meeting, in the form of presenting the colloquium paper to the instructor at the last meeting. The active participation of the student is required for admission to the colloquium (i.e. obtaining 60% of the maximum possible points).
