The students are required to reach at least intermediate level of general English before they enter the course. All language skills will be practised with special focus on English for specific purposes and English for academic purposes.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to expose the students to various types of authentic legal texts - both written and oral.

  • Topics for the work with texts, discussion and terminology acquisition: Introduction to legal English; What is law, prescriptive and descriptive law, customs and laws Powell: U1, Chromá I: U1; Sources of modern law,common law systems, continental systems Powell: U2, Chromá I: U2, U3; Civil and public law, main categories of civil and public law Powell: U3 Chromá I: U4; Judicial institutions, English courts Powell: U4; Lawyers at work, education, range of work, legalese Powell: U5.
