Course objectives
The course is an insight into German civil law. Legal topics are taught through basic case studies and the terminology is practised in tasks related to specific areas of law. At the end of the course, students will be able to solve basic cases using rules of German civil law. They will understand the gist of video recordings from court hearings (level C1), provide summary and give reasons for a decision.

  • 1. Legal transactions 2. Declaration of intention and acceptance 3. Drawing up contracts, offer and acceptance 4. Right to discharge contracts in accordance with the law on door-to-door selling 5. Privat autonomy ("Privatautonomie") 6. Physical and legal entities 7. Contractual capacity 8. Denial of declaration of intention due to a mistake or error 9. Denial of declaration of intention due to wilful deceit, and threats of force or violence 10.Acting on behalf of someone else
