Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce law students into the system of Latin morphology and the rudiments of syntax so that they could read simple Latin texts and look up any Latin legal term.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - Understand legal expressions and interpret them. - Translate and interpret Latin sentences and classical Latin legal texts. - Analyze word formation in Latin words, including phonological changes. - Understand and actively use internationalisms of Latin origin.
Syllabus
1.Review of the system of Latin declensions of nouns and adjectives. Adjectives III. ungraded declension. Adjective suffixes. KviS (cultural and historical overview). 2. Comparison of the present tense system of individual conjugations – repetition and imperfect. Basic word maps. 3. Team competition. Demonstrative and relative pronouns. Translation of a continuous text. Incorporation of a Latin word or words into a Czech text. 4. Irregular verb esse and its derivatives in the imperfect and future tenses I. Assimilation of consonants. Translation of a continuous text. 5. Excursion: Latin inscriptions and chronograms in Brno. 6. Future I. of regular verbs. Basic numerals up to 1000 and ordinal. 7. Basic numerals over 1000 with an object. Multiple numerals. Plurilingual concepts expressing quantity. 8. Personal pronouns and pronominal adjectives. Semantics of the simple ablative. 9. Semantics of the simple genitive. Grading of regular adjectives and adverbs. 10. Grading of irregular adjectives. The originator of the action in a passive sentence. 11. Conversion and non-conversion: present participle of the active. Sentence transformation. 12. Sentence transformation from the original text.

Teaching methods Interactive language seminar according to the current Interactive curriculum (in IS MUNI) Quiz, exercises with a key, active expansion of vocabulary also for plurilingualism, refinement of meanings - word maps. With continuous home preparation.
Assessment methods
Assessment methods During the semester: participation and work in seminars with continuous completion of tasks (max. 50%). Exam: successful completion of the exam test (max. 30%) and the oral part of the exam (max. 20%). Overall, at least 60% of the points must be achieved.
