- Abstract
The course is designed as a theoretical course with subsequent practical demonstration. It provides an overview of elimination techniques, particularly renal replacement therapy and other extracorporeal blood purification methods, as well as intensive nursing care for patients with acute conditions in nephrology, endocrinology, diabetology, gastroenterology, hepatology and related fields of internal medicine.
Students will become familiar with the indications, principles, technical aspects and basic monitoring of elimination techniques, including haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, haemofiltration, haemodiafiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy, plasmapheresis and haemoperfusion. They will understand the basic types of vascular access and the principles of connecting a patient to extracorporeal elimination devices. Emphasis is placed on the prevention and recognition of complications, infection control measures and safe nursing care for patients requiring intensive care.
The student will be able to provide appropriate nursing care to patients with acute kidney disease, endocrine emergencies, acute complications of diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases and hepatobiliary disorders.
- Learning outcomes
- The student can explain the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and principles of patient care with severe urotheopathic system, acute complications of diabetes and endocrine system, gastrointestinal tract. The student can explain the principles of purification methods.

Diagnostic methods in nephrology and the nursing approach to patients with kidney disease. Acute kidney injury. Chronic kidney disease and chronic kidney failure. Disorders of fluid, electrolyte and acid-base balance and urgent indications for elimination therapy. Nursing care for patients with chronic kidney failure. Haemodialysis: principles, technical aspects, indications, acute and chronic haemodialysis, monitoring of efficacy and complications. Peritoneal dialysis: principles, technical aspects, types, indications, complications and assessment of treatment efficacy. Haemofiltration and haemodiafiltration: principles, technical requirements, indications and complications. Continuous renal replacement therapy: principles, technical requirements, indications, monitoring and complications. Plasmapheresis and haemoperfusion: principles, technical requirements, indications and complications. Nursing care for patients undergoing plasmapheresis or haemoperfusion. Acute conditions in endocrinology. Acute complications of diabetes. Acute conditions in gastroenterology and hepatology. Acute intoxications. Acute conditions in haematology.
