Course objectives
At the end of the course student should be able to understand the biokinetics pathways of xenobiotics in the body related to the level of exposure and elimination and using in biological tests of exposure. On the practical level, student will have the skills in the Ames test for detection of mutagenicity in environmental and human biological materials and the simple tests of genotoxicity (chromosomal aberrations, sister chromatide exchanges)
Syllabus
  • Routes of excretion of xenobiotics. Biological tests of exposure. Similarities and differences between children and adults in toxicology. The carcinogenesis. Short-term tests of genotoxicity. Examples of the food chains contamination by xenobiotics (DDT, lead). Priorities of the modern toxicology. Smoking as the major toxicologic source of human exposure.
