Course objectives
Subject multicultural nursing aims is to acquainted students with the specifications providing care for foreign nationals. The student will know: - history of the development of multicultural nursing in our country and the around the world; - multicultural background and importance of nursing and factors that affect it; The student will know and use the basic terminology in a multicultural nursing. Student on the basis of the information gathered to identify the value of clients; Student knows the principles of communication with foreigners labels will be respected in practice to apply. Student on the basis of the knowledge and experience of the relationship multicultury and spirituality, they will be orientated in the area of spiritual needs; Students means the effects of faith, religion, culture, traditions, customs, values, ethics ... which cut in the area of multicultural nursing. The students knows the basic characteristics of selected ethnic, cultural and religious groups living in the Czech Republic. Student will receive an overview of selected theories and conceptual models in a multicultural nursing, and they will be abel to apply knowledges and experience learned during the tuition and implementing the nursing process in the care of foreigners.

  • Basic terminology. An overview of the history of multicultural nursing. Factors affecting multicultural nursing. Multicultural background / transcultural nursing. Ethical aspects and communication in a multicultural nursing. Ethnic climate in the Czech Republic. Nursing process in a multicultural / transcultural nursing. Selected ethnic groups and ethnic minorities in the Czech Republic. Madeleine Leininger - Theory of culturally diverse and universal care. Joyce Newman Giger, Ruth Elaine Davidhizar - Model considerate and culturally adapted care. Multicultural nursing versus spirituality and spiritual needs.

Final oral test - the part of exam is the seminar thesis which will be done as a homework. The concrete information concerning the seminar will be given at the tuition.
