Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to describe and explain terms related to selected body systems, their organs, functions and disorders; use practical medical vocabulary; should be able to apply medical language in doctor-patient communication, interpret medical texts, create medical documentation; use grammatical structures typical for medical language.
Syllabus
  • 1.: The Human Body. Naming Parts of the Body. Muscular and Skeletal Systems. Topic: At the Doctor's.
  • 2.: Cardiovascular and Hematic/Lymphatic Systems. Topic: Injuries.
  • 3.: Gastrointestinal System. Topic: In Hospital.
  • 4.: Respiratory System. Integumentary System. Topic: Feeling Ill.
  • 5.: FINAL TEST.
  • Part of the course contents also includes selected grammar points.
  • In addition to the above mentioned topics and grammar, the course will also focus on the mastery of communicative skills - i.e. speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Assessment methods
Attendance is compulsory. Two absences are tolerated provided a letter of excuse is handed in at the Department of Studies. It is highly recommended to make up for the absence in the same week. Assessment is based on the results of the credit test (score - minimum 65%) and attendance. Students get two credits for successful completion of the course.

Information on completion of the course: Pro studenty se státní jazykovou zkouškou, příp. jejím ekvivalentem (TOEFL, FCE apod.) je účast na výuce v podzimním semestru nepovinná. Předmět si nicméně zaregistrují a na konci semestru jej ukončí složením zápočtového testu.
