Course objectives
Main objectives: - to understand the basic principles of social interaction in intensive care in terms of effective information transmission to healthcare professionals with regard to the specifics of patients in intensive care and their family members or survivors - to provide information on simple procedures resulting from stressful life situations that a non-medical healthcare practitioner encounters in his / her practice
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: - define basic principles of social interaction in intensive care; - apply psychological aspects of nursing care in intensive medicine; - appply psychological approach and communication techniques in interpersonal relationships; - communicate with patients in critical condition and with their family; - to realize the need for cooperation; - apply effective communication strategies in interaction with individual members of the multidisciplinary team, with the patient and family members; - identify the specific needs of patient (family) in the field of social interaction; - use alternative and augmentation communication with regard to the specific needs of the patient and their family; Communicate with the patient on UPV; - respond to the problematic situations arising from the care of persons requiring intensive care; - to explain the possibilities of caring for his / her mental health; - to recognize their attitudes, attitudes, ways of communication at work, to identify the needs and wishes of patients and their families.
Syllabus
  • - The general principle of social interaction and specifics in intensive care - Principles of social interaction in pre-hospital care and inpatient intensive care (effective transmission of information, evaluation and devaluation of healthcare workers' behavior, building an effective relationship, and social interaction with family members) - Communication and access to patients in a critical and critical condition and to their family members. - Augmentative and alternative communication in intensive care - Identification of patients' needs and specifics of communicating with people with a disturbed consciousness, with airways secured - Specifics of social interaction in people with disabilities (mental, sensory, physical disability) in intensive care - Specific needs and social interactions in patients of different age categories (child patient, communication with parents, communication with olderly people) - The illness and attitude of the patient / family - Dying and Death - Ethical aspects of intensive care - Procedures to prevent the negative effect of high emotional stress on professional caregivers in intensive care (Burn out syndrome, escape tendencies)
