Course objectives
Main bjectives: - to understand the basic principles of transcultural nursing; - to define the cultural competences of healthcare professionals; - to become familiar with the structure of the minority population in Czech society; - to identify the specifics of providing care for nationality, ethnic and religious groups living in the Czech Republic; - to reflect migration issues and related current developments, legislation, refugee facilities and centers for foreigners, health needs and migrants' risks.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: - to describe the history of the development of transcultural nursing in the US and the world; - to explain the importance of transcultural nursing and the factors that affect it; - to use basic conceptual apparatus in transcultural nursing; - to explain the influence of faith, religion, culture, traditions, customs, values, ethics, etc. in transcultural nursing; - to identify and respect patient values; - to identify and respect the specific needs of patients in the provision of health / nursing care in terms of national, ethnic and religious; - to recognize and use alternative ways of communicating with foreigners, to apply the principles of communication labels to foreigners; - to focus on the issues of spiritual needs related to the provision of culturally specific care; - to describe basic characteristics of selected ethnic, national and religious groups living in the Czech Republic; - to apply acquired knowledge and cultural competences in practice.

  • Introduction to the subject of transcultural nursing - the importance of transcultural nursing, the starting point and the factors that influence it. - Historical development of multicultural / transcultural nursing. - Basic conceptual apparatus. - Ethical aspects and communication in transcultural nursing. - Nursing process in transcultural nursing. - Spiritual needs in transcultural nursing. - National minorities, ethnic and religious groups living in the territory of the Czech Republic - Migration and related current developments, legislation, refugee facilities and centers for foreigners, health needs and migrants' risks.
