Students must have basic knowledge of anatomy and first aid. They should be able to react under the guidance of a teacher on sudden changes in the patient´s health status within their competencies according to the valid legislation.

Course objectives
This subject is an introduction to Nursing science for dentistry students. Tuition is focused on the basic information on how to take care of the patient (mobile - independent, immobile - dependent) in all ages and periods of life. Special attention will be paid on obtaining knowledge and skills in basic nursing interventions in clinical practice and to fulfil basic patient´s needs in relation to the Maslow´s hierarchy and pyramid.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able after the completion of the course to render care in basic patient´s needs: - - in the area of cognitive goals they will be able to define nursing, holism and nursing care to define the patient´s needs and the nursing process as a way for fulfilment - in the area of psychomotor goals they will be able: to render care and satisfy basic patient´s needs in hygiene, feeding, excretion, breathing. - in the area of affective goals they will be able: to understand and accept the role of the general nurse in multidisciplinary team
Syllabus
  • The subject Basic nursing skills is theoretically and practically orientated subject. The main goal of the subject is to familiarise medical students with nursing sciences and possible collaboration among general nurses and physicians (team working in nursing). Students obtain knowledge and basic skills for delivering basic nursing skills/interventions and diagnostic procedures which are provided by general nurses or in which general nurses assist physicians. First part - theory - 4 hours.

  • patients bed - positioning of the patients, making beds,immobilisation syndrome - prevention
  • help with the hygienic care

  • The tuition is organized in special skills labs, students are trained in basic nursing skills in the environment simulated clinical practice.
  • Second part- 8 hours
  • Demonstration and exercise of basic nursing skills in the clinical environment under the supervision of a nursing teacher (the content of the tuition depends on the type of unit, the actual status of the patients, and available prescribed interventions).
