Course objectives
The subject provides a survey of basic knowledge from molecular and cell biology as well as from human genetics. Selected topics in molecular and cell biology include storage and expression of genetic information, cell structure and function including cellular interactions, development, basic genetics. The above mentioned knowledge is a prerequisite of further theoretic and preclinical studies.

  • Cellular organization of living systems. Biopolymers. Cell memory. Genetic information. Expression of genetic information and its regulation. Translation and protein metabolism. Biomembranes and energy transformation. Membrane transport. Organization of cell nucleus. Chromosomes. Cytoskeleton. Motor proteins. Cell cycle. Mitosis and cytokinesis. Cell interactions and signalling. Secretion pathway and endocytosis. Stem cells and strategy of cellular therapy. Neoplastic transformation of cells. From gene to trait: Mendel rules of heredity. Mechanisms of DNA repair and geonome stability. Mutations and hereditary diseases. Genetic engineering. Human genome. Molecular disgnostics. Gene therapy.
