Course objectives
At the end of the Neuroscience course, students will have sufficient theoretical background required for physician. Students should be able to recall known principles of central and peripheral nervous systems. Students will be able to explain brain development, neuronal communication, and its impairment of experience or disease. Students will be able to explain why a human being is moving, perceiving, thinking and remembering.
Syllabus
  • Neural science is based on the integration of morphology and function. Excitable Tissue: Nerve. Synaptic and Junctional Transmission. Initiation of Impulses in Sense Organs. Reflexes. Cutaneous, Deep and Visceral Sensation. Vision. Hearing and Equilibrium. Smell and Taste. Alert Behavior, Sleep and the Electrical Activity of the Brain. Control of Posture and Movement. The Autonomic Nervous System. Central Regulation of Visceral Function. Teaching methods
Lessons are led in the form of lectures and practicals.
Assessment methods
Completion of Neuroscience-lecture course is in the form of written test - students write answers to 3 questions during two hours period. In the 1st question the emphasis is on neuroanatomical knowledge (rated up to 2 points), in the 2nd question the emphasis is on neurophysiological knowledge (rated up to 2 points). The 3rd question is integrative and tests student`s ability to describe the issue from the perspective of neuroanatomy (rated up to 2 points) and neurophysiology (rated up to 2 points) together. Student can obtain the maximum number of 8 points in total. To pass the exam, he/she must obtain a minimum of 4 points. Getting 0 points on any question (anatomy or neurophysiology) is evaluated as F (failed) from the whole examination.
