Course objectives
Student will be able to: explain the difference between acute and chronic intensive care; clarify the issue of At the end of the course the student will be able to: explain the difference between acute and chronic intensive care; clarify the issue of long-term intensive care (LIC) - the spectrum of patients, personnel, material and technical equipment of the workplace, documentation; describe the legislation at issue; clarify the needs of patients in the ward LIC; explain the issue of home mechanical ventilation and long-term home oxygen therapy, including childcare at home on mechanical ventilation or oxygen therapy; clarify the risk of nosocomial infections in LIC; properly perform prevention of nosocomial infections; properly carry out monitoring of vital signs in LIC; explain the risks and complications of catheterization men; properly perform catheterization of the urinary bladder in men; toilet properly perform airway of the patient with tracheostomy; properly perform tracheostomy dressing (including complicated tracheostomy); explain the procedures used for the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia; correctly apply the medication to the airway of the patient with tracheostomy; monitor patients on prolonged mechanical ventilation clarify the benefits and contraindications to noninvasive mechanical ventilation; explain the correct procedure for treating subcutaneous ports (including the risks and complications); explain the concept of basal stimulation; incorporate elements of basal stimulation in nursing care; kinaesthetics use elements in the implementation of the intensive care; enumerate the possibilities of communication in patients on prolonged mechanical ventilation; perform active and passive rehabilitation in patients on mechanical ventilation; develop a plan for long-term rehabilitation patients.
Syllabus
  • 1th Week Department of Long-term intensive care (primary diagnosis, instrumentation, equipment, staffing, documentation, legislation needs of the patient in DIP, goals hospitalization and nursing care). 2th Week Home mechanical ventilation (indicated DUPV, forms, complications, legislation, project DUPV, nursing process of ventilated patients in homecare, oxygentherapy). 3th Week Health care, immobilization syndrome, infection prevention (health care for specific patient according to the extent of his disability, chronic infections, nosocomial infections, care aids in LIC, homecare). 4th Week Physiological function in LIC, nutritional care and excretion in patients LIC (practice swallowing evaluation tolerance nutrition catheterization men). 5th week Nursing care airways of ventilated patients in home care and LIC (tracheostomy care/complex tracheostomy, respiratory toilet, VAP prevention, drug delivery to breathing passage, weaning, noninvasive ventilation, physiological assessment of respiratory function). 6th, 7th and 8 week Basal stimulation for patients in ICU (meaning the concept, implementation of the concept in nursing care, practical training, use kinaesthetics in basal therapy, the proportion of families in the care of the patient with mechanical ventilation). 9th week Communication with ventilated patients in homecare, LIC, communication with family (communication options for patients UPV, preventing social isolation, use of leisure time). 10th week Physiotherapy in intensive care (positioning, passive / active RHB, rehabilitation breathing, special rehabilitation at selected diagnoses, verticalization - locomotion, rehabilitation plan for chronical patient restore impaired functions, education for self-sufficiency, utilities, documentation).
