Course objectives
The course is part of a complex of compulsory subjects from clinical disciplines, builds on knowledge of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, epidemiology, pharmacology, first aid and pediatrics. It is designed as a theoretical and practical, teaching takes place in a professional classroom. The course follows the Nursing Care in Pediatrics I - practice, taught in the previous semester. The aim of the course is to gain an overview of speech development in children and specific speech, learning and behavioral disorders. Furthermore, gaining an overview of disabilities in children, namely physical, mental (including autism spectrum disorders and Down's syndrome) and sensory. Gaining knowledge of infectious diseases in children. Furthermore, gaining awareness of inclusion and the issue of bullying in children and gaining communication skills necessary for orthoptic practice.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
Characterize the development of speech in a child.
Define specific speech, learning and behavioral disorders, including their manifestations and therapeutic approaches.
List the principles of communication and specific approach to a child with a speech, learning or behavior disorder.
Define physical disabilities in children, understand their causes, symptoms and know the basic therapeutic procedures.
Define mental disabilities in children, including Down's syndrome and autism spectrum disorders, understand their causes, symptoms and know basic therapeutic procedures.
List the principles of communication and specific approach to a child with Down syndrome and autism spectrum disorder.
Define sensory disabilities in children, understand their causes, symptoms and know the basic therapeutic procedures.
Define infectious diseases typical of childhood, understand their causes, symptoms and know the basic therapeutic procedures.
Define the concepts of inclusion and bullying.
Apply communication skills necessary for orthoptic practice.
