Course objectives
The aim of this subject is to introduce the students of selected chapters from the French literature in their mutual context. The course builds on the overview knowledge of the students gained in Bachelor study, deepens their sensitivity of the literary text with respect to their future pedagogical practice.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able: to learn practically the history of French literature of the specified period; to define mains elements of differentiate individual literary styles; to illustrate the theory by means of texts; differentiate individual literary styles of the specified period; to categorise them chronologically and compare them reciprocally.

  • 1. The genres of literature in the Middle Ages. 2. Poetry and Prose of the Renaissance and Baroque. 3. The rules of literary creation to classicism. 4. The Age of Enlightenment, between philosophy and literature. 5. The new aesthetics of romanticism. 6. From realism to naturalism. 7. The poetry of the second half of the nineteenth century. 8. The avant-gardes at the beginning of the 20th century. 9. New trends in the interwar period novel 10. The human condition and existentialism. 11. The new novel and the absurd theater. 12. Literature at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.
