Course objectives
Student will be able to provide proper systematic processing of the curriculum of literary education, particularly the proper interpretative work with literary texts. They will be able to apply various methods and forms, including those creating and culturing readership and literacy of their pupils.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to explain the specifics of the artistic text reception by children of a younger school age, they will be able to use text preparing approaches, they will be able to apply various interpretative approaches while working with artistic texts for teaching and will acquire additional methods and forms of work intended to develop and consolidate children’s readership and literacy.
Syllabus
  • 1. The process of literary text reception, literary communication. 2. The process of literary education and its components (teaching factors in literature). Functional, literary, cultural literacy. 3. Teacher’s preparation for a literary education lesson and its components (literary science, psychology of education, methodology). 4. Preparatory complex text interpretation (example of the process). 5. The process of literary education and its phases, functions and the methods of motivation. 6. Interpretation of artistic texts as a phase of the process of literary education. 7. The functions of didactic interpretation, tasks and questions of interpretation (methods of interpretation) – example of the process. 8. Interpretation of a text and students’ creativity. 9. Literary aesthetic activities – reproduction, production (overview). 10. Extensive reading (selection, control), classes of the so-called current literary education. 11. Student’s personality being cultured as a reader, film and television viewer. 12. Researches regarding reading and literacy.

Teaching methods
Taught as: consultations Methods: direct work with texts, examples of preparatory text interpretation and its didactic transformation, discussing selected issues of the field
Assessment methods
Completion: oral examination. Examination requirements: 1. Model lesson plan for a combined type of a literary education class (for the 4th or 5th class); 2. Students prove that they have a detailed knowledge of theoretical background of the subject. Detailed requirements related to the structure of the lesson plan and examination topics are asssigned at the beginning of the term. The examination has two parts: a written lesson plan and an oral examination which tests students knowledge of the theory. Detailed requirements are available in each term in Study Materials of the course in the Information System MU, the folder Learning Materials.
