Abstract

The aim of the course is to acquire basic knowledge of the content of art education as part of compulsory schooling, to confront educational intentions with the realities of school practice, and to understand pupils and the specific characteristics of their artistic expression.

The course is oriented towards understanding the spontaneous artistic expression of children and pupils as a natural mode of expression, thinking, cognition, and communication, which forms the basis of didactic reasoning and pedagogical decision-making. The main purpose of the course is to develop sensitivity to the child and their world, to the individual and developmental dimensions of artistic expression, and to the conditions for learning.

Attention is given to the specific features of children’s artistic expression, its ontogenesis, expressive typologies, and other characteristics of children’s artistic handwriting, as well as to methods of pedagogical observation, interpretation, and reflection without normative evaluation.

The course provides an introduction to pedagogical guidance of the creative process, support for the authenticity of artistic expression, and the sensitive selection of appropriate pedagogical support with regard to pupils’ needs, abilities, life experiences, and specific educational needs at different levels of education. The course also includes an introductory overview of assessment in art education, understood primarily in formative terms—as a tool for understanding learning processes and supporting further development, rather than for comparing outcomes.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to understand the changes in the goals of art education in primary education and perceive the student as an individual, which is also reflected in his artistic expression.
Key topics
The issue of art education, changes in the educational goals of art education (possibility of monitoring within pedagogical practice). Spontaneity of children's artistic expression. Continuity of preschool and basic education. Specifics of children's artistic expression. Individual artistic expression and education.
