Course objectives
The course will offer an insight into the field of social entrepreneurship. Social entrepreneurship is a business activity that benefits society and the environment. It plays an important role in local development and often creates employment opportunities for people with social disadvantages. Making a profit and increasing public benefit are equally important for social enterprise.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: - describe the objectives and importance of social entrepreneurship in relation to social work and social pedagogy; - explain the principles of social entrepreneurship and evaluate its benefits for socially disadvantaged groups and the public; - to orientate oneself in the theories and methods related to the development of social entrepreneurship and the creation of social enterprises; - be familiar with current legislation and theories and be able to relate them to social work and social pedagogy; - create and present a social enterprise project aimed at supporting different groups with social disadvantages. Key concepts: social entrepreneurship, principles of social entrepreneurship, social theory, social disadvantage, social pathology, legislation, target groups of social entrepreneurship, social participation, public benefit, solidarity, neighbour principle, quality of life, social functioning, human dignity.
Syllabus
  • 1. Social disadvantage as a handicap, socially pathological phenomena and their impact on people (poverty, unemployment, crime). The social dimension of Europe, trends and visions. 2. Theories of social work in relation to social enterprise (humanistic and existential theories, social constructivism, anti-oppressive approaches, social network theory, social development and personal identity theory, social cohesion theory). 3. Target groups with social disadvantages, social exclusion and its impact on human dignity. Solidarity in society and quality of life. 4. Social entrepreneurship as a phenomenon and its impact on the career of socially disadvantaged groups and on public benefit. 5. Principles of social entrepreneurship (social benefit, economic benefit, public and environmental benefit) 6. Examples of social enterprises in the Czech environment and inspiration from abroad. 7. Legislative and economic framework of social enterprise. 8. Designing in social entrepreneurship, cooperation with various state organisations and the non-profit sector. 9. Creating a social entrepreneurship project focused on different target groups with social disadvantages (people with psychological and physical disabilities, single mothers, migrants, Roma, people with low education, etc.). 10. Online presentation of the social entrepreneurship project in public space.

Theoretical preparation, seminar teaching, discussion, designing. Independent work of students: Study of sources and preparation for the final colloquium. Work of the team on the creation of a social entrepreneurship project. Preparation of presentation and presentation of social enterprise in public online space.

Presentation of the social entrepreneurship project, quality assessment, final debate on the subject.
