Prerequisites
B1 level knowledge of Russian is required (attending of a two term course in bachelor studies).

The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course (B2) mission is to develop students' receptive (reading, listening) and productive (speaking, writing) language skills and to enhance their grammar and vocabulary knowledge at level B2 by means of academic topics/issues related to the sphere of special needs education. After completing the course, students can use selected terminology, show a good command of selected grammar structures, understand both written and spoken academic texts at level B1+/B2, can write a formal letters and can give an oral presentation on a particular SNE issue.
Syllabus
  • 1) Development of speaking skills enabling students to deal with common conversation topics (leisure time, place of living, getting around a city, travelling) and about issues related to their study (university, educational systems, student’s subjects of study, bachelor’s and master’s thesis). 2) Development of reading skills in order to enable students to comprehend complicated general and specialized scientific texts. 3) Systematic development of vocabulary in general and academic level as well as in basic specialized terminology. 4) Development of listening skills, especially in terms of general language. 5) Revision and development of grammar awareness in respect to features of a formal style. 6) Development of writing skills; students should produce a structured CV, scholarship application, formal correspondence (request for sending some materials, expressing thanks, conference invitation) and brief summary of a scientific article.

Teaching methods
Listening exercises with accompanying questions and ensuing discussion, reading comprehension of written texts dealing with popular science themes as well as specific scientific texts, translations into Czech language, development of curricula, formal letter writing, exercises in basic grammar within scientific content and style, structure, expansion of casual as well as scientific vocabulary, working with dictionaries, casual and scientific conversation. Minipresentations: field of study.
Assessment methods
Course requirements and continuous assessment components' weights: 1) Attendance (only two classes can be missed); 2) Active participation in classes + completed assigned in-term tasks; 3) Mid-term test (20 marks); 4) Completed in-term writing assignments (15 marks); 5) Oral presentation (15 marks); 6) Credit test (50 marks); Total: 100 marks; PASS MARK = 65 marks (65%).
