Course objectives
The seminar will offer activities intended for young learners. It will show particularities of this age and activities appropriate for this group of learners. The participants will learn to consider all aspects of the lesson, to plan the activities and create their own lessons according to different requirements. They will be given the opportunity to confront their own ideas with those of other participants. This is to realize the wide scale of possibilities. The course is aimed to offer a lot of practical ideas to those who have little or no opportunities to work with children.
Syllabus
  • Introduction: Young learners and their particularities for learning foreign languages Procedures profit from their specifications in teaching a second language Conditions of teaching: Setting the classroom, classroom language, classroom routines Materials – textbooks, picture material, real objects, audiovisual materials Lesson plans Planning teaching - Methods and activities: Verbal activities, musical activities, art and craft activities, motional activities,drama Practical work: 1. working with rhymes/chants/songs 2. working with a topic 3. working with a page of a textbook 4. working with a linguistic task 5. working with a phonetic task 6. creating materials 7. creating worksheets Teacher’s presentations of each work Creating students’ own work and its presentation

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Block seminar, attendance in both blocks(8-10-2007 i 7-12-2007) required. Self study between the two seminars.
