Course objectives
The aim of the subject is obtaining of basic knowledge about breeding of animals - vertebrates as well as in vertebrates, then acquiring of basic skills of preparation of animals - especially insects, founding and managing of zoological collections. Creating of basic positive attitude towards refering this knowledge and these skills to pupils is of the major importance.
Syllabus
  • 1. Breedings invertebrates 1: insects (cockroaches, mantids, grass-hoppers, stick insects; beetles, butterflies, etc.) 2. Breedings invertebrates 2: spiders, scorpions, crabs; slugs, snails, earthworms, etc. 3. Picking (sampling), fixation and preparation of insects 4. Founding of insect collections, basic methods of regular desinsection of collections 5. Fundamentals of aquaristics and terraristics 6. Fundamentals of breedings of small (ornamental) birds and small mammals (rabbits and rodents) 7. Visiting selected sections of the Zoological garden in Brno 8. Fundamentals of fixation and preparation of vertebrates
