Course objectives
At the end of the course, the students will be able: 1 – to understand the process of gradual separating of the individual Slavonic/Slavic languages from the Common Slavonic/Proto-Slavonic language; 2 – to explain the sound features of Czech and other Slavonic languages as a result of the historical development of the Common Slavonic/Proto-Slavonic language.
Syllabus
  • 1. Classification of the Indo-European languages, the Slavic languages in the group of the Indo-European languages. 2. Development of the phonology and morphology system of the Czech language compare to the Indo-European proto-language and compare to the contemporary Slavic languages. 3. The syntax of the Church Slavonic.

Teaching methods
A lecture combined with subsequent discussions on the professional issues of the course.
Assessment methods
For a successful completion of the course, the students should complete a written test, where they freely formulate their answers and questions. The test is scored. Students must obtain at least an absolute majority of points. Detailed requirements are available in each term in Study Materials of the course in the Information System MU, the folder Learning Materials.
