- The basic knowledge from the high school soil science and biology is assumed as satisfactory as well as basics from the terminology used in these subjects.

- Course objectives
- The aim the subject is the presentation of basic scientific knowledge of soil science and biogeography to students. The essential information about the main soil roles in the environment, their basic components and features, diagnostics, classification and territorial distribution in Czech Repubic be provided in soilgeographical part of lectures. Finally the transfer options for the pedological and biogeographical knowledge to the secondary school pupils will be demonstrated. Students are able to distinguish the basic soil types and kinds and to evaluate them according to their importance for the development of the nature and economic utilizing. In biogeography, the students will be familiar with the contents main biogeographic terms, basic properties of living matter, the roles of organisms in the environment, relations of orgamisms with environmental factors. The main group of life forms of plants and biogeographic division of the Earth will be demonstrated.
- Learning outcomes
- The student can work with basic soil science and biogeographical literature. He/she knows well the meaning of professional terms. He/she can compose expert text on these topics. He/she knows map and data sources. He/she understands the relationship between soils and biota and other natural components of the landscape. He/she understands the importance of soils and the biota for human life and work.

- 5. Classification and distribution of soils in Czech Republic.
- 10. Didactic application of soil geographical a biogeographical knowledge in secondary school education with regard to geographic standards and curriculum.

- Oral lecture, individual work of students (compilation pedological map of individual residence area, cartometric work on topic map of vegetation).
- Assessment methods
- Subject themes are presented in oral lectures. Final exam is obligatory. If the written exam is successful, oral one is not necessary. Credits from the seminary represent the exam precondition.
