Course objectives
Students are confronted with definitions and terminology and learn about the main developments in the theory of art history. The course deepens the understanding of the methods of interpretation of the work of art that are used in the history of art and artistic criticism. It includes familiarization with models, strategies and terms of art history research and interpretative methods of artistic criticism. Emphasis is placed on students' active interpretation of works of art.
Learning outcomes
The student acquires knowledge of the nature of the field, knows basic terminology, personalities, methodological concepts and development stages of art theory. The future art educator will understand the knowledge of art history more widely and will acquire the deeper skills of interpreting the work of art. This is an important prerequisite for an active reflection of artistic production and the relevant use of the given fields of information in art education. • Student understands the role and basic methods of art history and art criticism and is able to explain them. • The student interprets works of art on the basis of acquired knowledge • The student is able to appropriately didactically transform the knowledge of art history and other disciplines for the needs of specific teaching practice.
