The basic study material is New English File Upper Intermediate. The students are expected to be acquainted with Units 5 and 6.

Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills at upper-intermediate level. The basic study material is coursebook New English File Upper-Intermediate supplemented by various additional materials. Throughout the semester students are encouraged to link theory in the classroom to practice at schools via practical tasks.
At the end of the course students should be able to: discuss everyday topics, communicate in everyday situations, read and listen to authentic texts at upper-intermediate level and communicate in the language fluently.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course the students will: - develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills at upper-intermediate level;
- link theory in the classroom to practice at schools via practical tasks;
-be able to: discuss everyday topics, communicate in everyday situations, read and listen to authentic texts at upper-intermediate level and communicate in the language fluently.
Syllabus
  • The basic study material is the coursebook New English File UPPER- INTERMEDIATE (Student's book and Workbook), see Literature below. The syllabus includes Units 5 - 6, the focus is on speaking and listening activities and development of students' vocabulary.

Assessment methods
Requirements: Maximum number of points per semester: 100 Pass mark: 70 (part of this sum is also the final written and oral test, students must obtain at least 70% for these final tests - if not: two resits of the final test are offered) Written test: 40 points Oral test: 30 points; Placement test No. 1: 5 points Progress test: 5 points. Other types of continuous assessment: 20 points FURTHER INFORMATION ON POINTS: PROGRESS TEST: 100-95% 5 POINTS 94-85% 4 POINTS 84-75% 3 POINTS 74-70% 2 POINTS LESS THAN 70% 1 POINT
