Course objectives
This course provides practical application for English including speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will have opportunities to improve their language use through discussions, exercises, leading learning centres and assignments. The course offers various techniques of language learning and teaching while developing a broader understanding of methodology and English speaking cultures.
Learning outcomes

Students will learn to analyze the language for teaching purposes and will be aware of the fact that they have changed their roles - from being the users of the language into being the source of information about the language and language model providers.

  • The methodology topics covered are: 1. Classroom management 2. Lesson planning 3. Teaching pronunciation 4. Teaching vocabulary 5. Teaching grammar 6. Teaching skills - Receptive skills (reading and listening) 7. Teaching skills - Productive skills (speaking and writing) 8. Error correction 9. Mediation 10. Exam practice The book Outcomes units 15 and 16 will be used for the Practical Language part of the course.

Teaching methods
The teaching method will be class discussions, group presentations, weekly reading, writing, and listening exercises.
Assessment methods
Methodology portfolio Language portfolio or writing in the forums - teacher assessment 2 tests Option 1 Option 2 Options - you should choose 2 options from the list below. Try to decide at the start of the semester what you will work on. Option A: Do a warm-up or group division activity (about 5 minutes) Option B: Micro-teaching - teach the class for 20 minutes Option C: work with a child to create a small project in English Option D: Create a multi-media presentation (video, powerpoint, prezi, etc) to teach a grammar point or some vocabulary to lower level students. Present it in class. Option E: be the moderator for one forum There will be an oral exam at the end of the course. The examination will be taken in pairs, and students will be asked about what they have read during the semester and will be expected to be able to answer questions about the methodology topics covered. All assignments are compulsory. The examination will be taken in pairs, and students will be asked about what they have read during the semester and will be expected to comment on and express their own opinions about the texts. You will also be asked to comment on your portfolio this semester. The examination is an oral one in which students will be asked to compare and contrast pictures related to topics discussed in class, and then asked to discuss one or more of the topics from the reader of their own choice. The passmark is 70% In the course, the use of AI is permitted for learning but not for cheating. It is acceptable to use AI for brainstorming ideas, basic proofreading, suggestions for improvement. It is unacceptable to have a text generated, translated or reformulated. Remember to acknowledge all innovative ideas that are not yours. For generated ideas use in-text citations. At the end of each assignment, state how you worked/did not work with AI. When in doubt, consult your teacher.
