- Course objectives
- The course concurs with the lectures of the history of French literature from the bachelor's program. Based on the reading of texts of chosen authors the students will get closely acquainted with one of the most popular literary genres in France. The goal of the course is to teach the students to work with a specific literary genre and expand their capacity to work with a literary text during the lessons of French language.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, students: - are acquainted with the predecessors of the genre, classical and temporary leading authors and with detective stories for children and youth; - learn text analysis, emphasis is given at methodological possibilities offered by detective stories. The output will be a methodologically focused seminar work coming from the reading of recommended authors.

- 1. Introduction to the genre problems. 2. Predecessors (Vidocq, Balsac, Hugo, Gaborieu. 3. Classical period (Leroux, Leblanc, Malet, Simenon). 4. “Néo-polar” authors. 5. Contemporary French detective fiction, literary awards, festivals 6. French detective fiction for children and youth 7. Methodological exploitation of detective fiction for children and youth (www.
