Course objectives
Students will develop all four skills, reading, listening, speaking and writing for better communication. As they are expected to be on the upper-intermediate level, they will work on extending the range and accuracy of the language as well as the register. They will learn to analyse the language for teaching purposes and will be aware of the fact that they have changed their roles -from being the users of the language into being the source of information about the language and language model providers. At the end of the course (i.e. after 3 semesters of the Practical language course) they are expected to achieve CAE level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference it is C1 level).
Syllabus
  • The students will cover U6-11 from the book Inside Out Upper Intermediate (see Literature below).

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Since this is a practical course, attendance is highly resommended.
The general pass mark for this course is 70%.
In order to qualify to sit for the complex exam at the end of the semester, students must pass the continuous assessment of their work during the semester. The continuous assessment will be different for each teacher. Students must pass the continuous assessment for both the teachers.
The continuous assessment will be based on work done in class with the book Inside Out as well as out-of-class assignments. Students are also expected to study the book English Grammar In Use in their own time.
There will be quizzes in class that will cover all the study materials (course book, workbook, Czenglish, English Grammar in USe, moodle materials)but the required level of English (B2-C1) will also be tested.
If students reach the pass mark in the continuous assessment, they will then sit the credit test.
The credit test will consist of evaluation of the students grammar and vocabulary based on the course book as well as general reading and listening sections.
