- Course objectives
- Students will develop all four skills, reading, listening, speaking and writing, for better communication. As they are expected to be at upper-intermediate level, they will work on extending the range and accuracy of the language as well as the register. They will learn to analyze the language for teaching purposes and be aware of the fact that they have changed their roles - from being the users of the language into being the source of information about the language and language model providers. At the end of the course (i.e. after 3 semesters of the Practical Language course) they are expected to achieve CAE level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference it is C1 level).
- Syllabus
- Inside Out Upper-intermediate, Units 6, (7), 8, 9, 10, 11 (Student's book - partly covered in class, the rest is up to students' home-work; Workbook - all relevant Units along with the key will be available in the moodle course; students are expected to do all the exercises in each Unit on their own) English Grammar in Use (intermediate), Units 81 - 136 (self-study material)

- Assessment methods
- In order to qualify to sit for the final exam at the end of the semester, students have to pass the 'continuous assessment' of their work during the semester - see the moodle course AJ2RC_PJ1B (IH) for details. The final exam will cover Units 1 to 11 from the textbook 'Inside Out Upper-intermediate'. It will test students' knowledge based on grammar, vocabulary as well as reading and listening sections of Units 1 to 11. In addition, it will test the content of all Units from the textbook 'English Grammar in Use' by Raymond Murphy. Finally, the test will also comprise general reading and listening comprehension exercises. The final exam will consist of a written and oral part. Students have to pass both parts separately, i.e. they have to reach at least 70% in each.
