Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to understand and analyze the acoustic structure of the language (characteristics of the contemporary French pronunciation, styles of pronunciation); to compare the spoken and written speech; to exercize the fonetic transcription. At the end of this course, students should be able to apply the acquiered knowledges and skills at the school.
Syllabus
System of French vowels, soft voice beginning, quantity, quality. 2. Nasal vowels. Semivowels. 3. Consonants; sonancy opposite; sonancy of end consonants, consonants assimilation; sonority changes; gemination; division of syllables. 4. Enchainement of vowels and consonants. 5. Liasion of vowels and consonants 6. Rhythmical group and stress; stress function; sentence stress; types of stress. 7. Intonation; intonation function in a French utterance. 8. Transcription; transliteration. 9. Spoken and written language form. 10. Homonyms, homophones, homographs. 11. Listening and reading of coherent texts with emphasising correct division, stress and intonation.

Assessment methods
Type of classwork: consultation. Workshop Ending: examination. Requirements for ending: meet the workshop requirements and the active participation (70%). Test (as a successful test is considered one with at least 70 % right answers) and oral examination.
