Course objectives
The students acquire basic knowledge on the problems of contemporary vocabulary, of its sources, development, enrichment and changes in the view of general linguistics and socio-linguistics. At the end of the course they should be able: to analyse and to explain the denotative and associative meaning of words and to make reasoned decisions about semantic relations holding between words in context; to explain and analyse the origins and development of the French vocabulary.

  • 1. Paronyms. Homonyms. 2.Synonyms and periphrases. 3. Antonyms and antiphrases. 4. Languge peculiarities of contemporary francophony. 5. Language levels. Contemporary language aspects. Argot. 6. Etymology of word connections.
