Course objectives
The aim of the course is the practice knowledge gained in the lecture "Oscillations, waves and optics" examples. Examples are selected so that they always, if possible, include some important elements of substance discussed in the lecture.
Syllabus
  • I. Oscillation. Harmonics free, damped and forced. Superposition of two harmonic oscillations DC and perpendicular to each other. Harmonic analysis of oscilations. Coupled oscillators. Transversal oscilations of string, the longitudinal oscilations of thin rod. II. Waves. Progressive waves, wave equation. Energy of progressive waves. Interference of waves. Wave package, group and phase velocity of waves. Plane wave, spherical wave, spread waves in space. Reflection and refraction of waves on a plane between the two mediums, bending waves. Doppler's effect. Sound, basic characteristics of sound. Infrasound and ultrasound. III. Optics Basic laws of propagation of light. Light as electromagnetic vawe, its properties. Maxwell's equations in optics. Power propagation by electromagnetic wave, Poyntig's vector.Polarisation of electromagnetic waves. Photometry. Basic photometric terms of quantity and units.
