Course objectives
The course familiarizes students with the basic facts of Russian history since the creation of the Kievan Rus to the late 20th century. Emphasis is placed on understanding of Russian history in the European context. Considerable emphasis should be placed on putting yet not commonly known knowledge and facts, to the current interpretation of Russian history. The procedure follows a chronological line from Slavs migrations till the late 20th century.
Syllabus
  • 1. The oldest first Slavs, migrations of Slavs. The arrival of Varangians. The foundation of the first Russian state, the first princes. Prince Vladimir Svjatoslavič, the Christianity in Russia. Period of Kievan Rus. Yaroslav the Wise, Vladimir Monomach, foreign policy, relations with Byzantium. Disintegration of Kievan Rus. Novgorod, the Kingdom of Vladimir-Suzdal and the Kingdom of Galicia-Volhynia. Pskov. 2. The invasion of the Mongols in Kievan Rus. Golden Horde. Fights with the Swedes and Teutonic Knights. Alexander Nevsky. Strengthening of Moscow. The foundation of an unified state. First Moscow princes. Ivan III, internal and external politics, culture in the 15th century. Struggle with the Tatars, Kulikovská battle, "standing" on the river Ugřa, overthrow of the Tatar yoke. 3. Russia in the 16th century. Ivan IV., reforms, foreign policy. Oprichnina. Culture in the 16th century. Russia at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. Situation in the country after the death of Ivan IV., Boris Godunov. Smuta. 4. Russia in the 17th century. The first Romanov on the throne, internal and foreign policy. The Cossacks. Connection of Ukraine to Russia. Schism in the Church. 5. Assessment methods
Examination Requirements: The exam consists of a written (test) and oral. 1) A prerequisite for passing the oral exam is a written test within the specified areas. The test is an integral part of the test. 2) Submission of the project - coursework a student essay on a selected topic. The deadline for coursework: the beginning of the examination period JS. Form: in printed form in person to the clipboard office on the ground floor Poříčí 7, by sending regular mail to the address of the workplace. Work will formally meet the requirements for Bachelor's thesis (ie. the content and layout of formal layout), range 15 pages of the text, ie. without annexes, bibliography and list of sources and literature including proper citation of electronic resources. Evaluation of test results will be entered into the System within 7 working days after the test (see Study and Examination Regulations MU), just in case, when the coursework meets all the requirements and was accepted by the teacher, ie. In the absence of teacher's comments. Otherwise, the student will have 14 days to make corrections and editing coursework, there must be surrendered again within 14 days.
