Course objectives
The subject deepens and further develops the basic knowledge and skills acquired in the courses of Cartography and Geoinformatics for Geographers. The student will learn to apply the general principles of creating thematic maps on specific examples. Emphasis is placed on the use of colors and rasters to express the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of geographic phenomena, the compilation of extended map compositions and the practical application of cartographic methods. The student will also learn how to create thematic maps for teaching geography at elementary schools. Objectives - a student is going to:  Create a mental map, in which he or she is going to show the appropriate combination of cartographic methods, Create a map composition with the use of basic and superstructure compositional elements,  Propose the legend of the map, appropriately classify the individual themes of the map,  Create a thematic map - cartogram and cartodiagram with the use of geoinformation technologies,  Process a set of thematic maps of the local region, explain the selection of maps and critically evaluate them.

  • Syllabus of the course: - A mental map. - Map composition - basic and superstructural compositional elements. - Legend of the map - process and principles of legend creation. - Raster and color in a thematic content. - The theory of point marks and the cardodiagrams. - Thematic maps of the local region. - Creating maps to teach geography.
