Course objectives
Having met the course requirements, students have broad knowledge of the development of the most important genres in literature for children and young adults. Students are able to evaluate contemporary literary production for children and young adults, both books and magazines. They will be able to interpret literary pieces as well as justify and support their views using their knowledge of literary studies.
Syllabus
  • Literature for youth from the point of view of literary genres: 1. The changes of children’s and youth poetry I. 2. The changes of children’s and youth poetry II. 3. Folk fairy tale and its adaptations. 4. Original fairy tale. 5. Narrative prose with a child protagonist. 6. Humor in children’s and youth literature. 7. Prose with a girl protagonist. 8. Adventure fiction for children and youth. 9. Prose with nature as a theme. 10. Adaptations of myths and historical matters.

Teaching methods
Type of course: seminar. Students prepare their own mini-lectures for which they select literary works in order to illustrate a genre development.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: active participation in seminars and short presentations of assigned literary works related to the seminar topics.
