Abstract
The aim of the course Lexicology is to acquire basic knowledge about vocabulary development, its development, enrichment and changes with focus on the creation and meaning of words (lecture) that are practiced in seminars.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students are able to: interpret basic lexical concepts, apply basic knowledge on the problems of contemporary vocabulary, of its sources, development, enrichment and changes in the view of general linguistics and socio-linguistics.

1. Sourses of vocabulary, historical development. 2. Doublets, loan-words, anglicisms and their French equivalents. 3. Word formation: derivation, composition, change of grammar category, abbreviations, acronyms. 4. Generalisation of proper names, geolexicology. 5. Phraseology. 6. Paronyms. Homonyms. 7.Synonyms and periphrases. 8. Antonyms and antiphrases. 9. Languge particularities of contemporary francophony. 10. Language levels. Contemporary language aspects. 11. Argot. 12. Etymology of word connections.
