Course objectives
The aim of the course is to apply the students’ skills gained during their work with the Czech National Corpus to their teaching practice – in teaching the Czech language;
Stress is laid on the skill to form queries in the CNC that would be useful in lessons of orthography, morphology, lexicology and word-formation or syntax.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, a student should be able to:
1. explain the structure of the CNC and its importance in teaching the Czech language;
2. use particular corpora of the CNC practically to look up language phenomena;
3. use particular corpora of the CNC practically to teach some language levels of the Czech language;
4. design a set of exercises based on working with various corpora of the CNC.
Syllabus
  • 1. Possibilities of use of the CNC corpora in teaching the Czech language.
  • 2. Observation of corpus data and their comparison with handbooks of orthography and grammar of current Czech language.
  • 3. Teaching about variant forms, mainly from the fields of orthography and morphology.
  • 4. Teaching about Phraseology in Czech National Corpus.
  • 5. Typology of exercises, creating of exercises and other activities for teaching the Czech language.

A seminar - problem method, controlled discussion on the professional issues of the course.
Working with Czech National Corpus.
Analysis of founded language phenomena.

Assessment methods
The subject is ended by a credit. To get a credit each student has to elaborate a written seminar work. Detailed requirements are available in each term in Study Materials of the course in the Information System MU, the folder Learning Materials.
In the semester "spring 2021" the student shall to hand in a work with 4 tasks focusing on the extracting language phenomena from Czech National Corpus: orthography (1 task), morphology (1 task), word forming (1 task) and phraseology, lexicology or syntax (1 task). The student shall create the task that can be used in the Czech language teaching at the secondary school. The student has to hand in that work no later than one week before conclusion of the studium.
