Course objectives
The aim of this course is to acquire basic knowledge of the practical Russian language. Students are obliged to read and listen to Russian texts and work with the Russian Internet.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students will be able:
- to discuss the conversational topics;
- to express their views with using a new vocabulary;
- to apply grammatical and stylistic knowledge of the Russian language in written and verbal communication.
Syllabus
  • 1.The world of human feelings and emotions. Spelling of adverbs.
  • 2. Health and a healthy way of life. Combining verbs with nouns in Russian.
  • 3. Nations and nationalities. Possessive adjectives.
  • 4. Mass-media: influence on contemporary society. Irregular forms of gradation of adjectives and adverbs.
  • 5. Art. Secondary prepositions.
  • 6. Architecture: old architectural monuments, modern appearance of the city. Repetition.

Teaching methods
Seminar, class discussion on given topics, homework, group projects within the areas discussed, reading and listening of Russian texts.
Assessment methods
The credit consists of two parts:
a) Written test (it is necessary to achieve at least 75%).
b) Oral part: student freely converses with the teacher on assigned topics.
The accuracy, fluency and complexity of monologic and dialogic oral speech and the ability to achieve the communication goal are evaluated.
