- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students can define the basic mathematical concepts and explain theoretical basis which is needed to understand the concept of natural numbers. This knowledge will be able to apply in achieving the Framework Educational Program for Pre-school education in the development of cognitive abilities in mathematics.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the student: • will have knowledge of theoretical background of propositional calculus, of set theory and of binary relations as precondition of understanding of the natural number theory. • will have knowledge of basic geometric shapes and solids, of set theory and of binary relations as precondition of development of the mathematical pre-literacy. • will be able to apply acquired knowledge during own educational practise for development of mathematical preliteracy of children. • will be able to formulate and understand the contribution of pre-numerical, numerical thinking and geometry for the development of personality of the pre-school age children.
- Syllabus
- Basic concepts of propositional logic and set theory; their use in everyday communication. Binary relations, properties of relations and their use for sorting, comparing, ordering. Mapping between sets, type of mapping. Binary algebraic operations and their properties. Natural numbers, the introduction and basic properties. Operations with natural numbers. Natural numbers at primary school. Solving problems.
