- Course objectives
- The subject is aimed to teach the students how obtain the scientific information from the classical and predominantly the full-text databases accessible from the VFU local network, as well as the secondary information sources accessible from the Internet. The integral part of the education process is dedicated to work with specialized computer programs (molecular scheme creation, molecular graphics), useful in seminar works or theses creation.

1. Scientific information, research. Classical information sources (primary, secondary).
Practical part: Working with primary and secondary information sources in classical form (scientific journals, Chemical Abstracts, Beilsteins Handbuch der Organischen Chemie, Current Contents)
2. Basic secondary information sources in electronic form (Current Contents, Beilstein CrossFire). Strategies for creating a search. Processing of search results.
Practical part: Working with electronic secondary information sources. Create a user account in the classroom. Selection of the topic of the semester work.
3. Bibliographic quotes. Other secondary database sources of scientific information (Medline, Web of Science). Citation Index (SCI) and assessment of the scientific quality of journals.
Practical part: Search in electronic secondary information sources.
4. Fulltext and combined information sources (Science Direct, Inter-science, Springer Link, Kluwer, Highwire, Pro Quest).
Practical part: Searching in electronic full-text and combined information sources.
5. Additional programs for the preparation of semester and seminar papers (ISIS Draw, Chem Office, DS Viewer).
Practical part: Work with additional programs for the preparation of semestral work. Separate research work.
6. Preparation of semestral work.
7. Completion of semestral work, presentation of works.
8. Evaluation of semester work. Assignment of credits.

- The course can also be completed outside the examination period.
- Teacher's information
- The completion of all practical exercises and the successful defense of semestral work is a prerequisite for getting the credits. Semestral work must be written in a text editor, contain working hyperlinks to the information sources used and include at least one hypertext related scientific article related to the topic.
