Course objectives
The main objectives of the course are:
- Familiarization with the problems of literary criticism as a practical discipline between journalism and literary studies;
- Familiarization with the methods of literary criticism and its possibilities and limits given practice;
- Creation of works from ranks of the literary criticism, their peer review and metacriticism.
The seminar will be focused on reading historical texts evaluating literary news (especially new Czech poetry) published in the 70th and 80th of the 20th century and analysis of the methods used in these texts.
Learning outcomes
After the completion of the course, the student shall be able to:
- interpret a text of literary criticism;
- identify the influence of contemporary "social order", as well as the critics' "handwriting";
- reach generalizing, metacritical conclusions over literary texts;
- write up their own critical texts.

Teaching methods
The teaching method is based on familiarization with the history of literary criticism and the common interpretation of specific literary criticism texts. An essential part of the work in the seminar is writing one's own critical text and discussing it.
Assessment methods
The condition for obtaining credit is activity during the entire semester (reading of assigned texts) and submission of one's own critical text.
